About Us

I founded ULTRAMARATHONRUNNING in 2012. It started in a spare bedroom in Buckingham, moved to a warehouse in Towcester in 2019, and then to Bristol in 2023, where the store is based today.

I’ve been running ultramarathons since 2008, usually somewhere in the middle or further back, across trails, coastal paths, towpaths and athletics tracks throughout the UK. Favourite races have included London to Brighton, the South Downs Way 100 and the 145-mile Grand Union Canal Race.

I co-founded Canalrace C.I.C. and organised the Grand Union Canal Race and the other Canalslam races on a not-for-profit basis for a decade. I directly supported runners at checkpoints throughout events, including overnight and into a second night, helping them deal with the problems that arise over very long distances and prolonged time on the move. I have since passed race organisation on to the next generation, while remaining involved with the races and the canal running community.

My background is in engineering and industrial technology, including heavy lifting and factory automation with Keyence. I also lived and worked in Japan. These experiences influenced the way I approach things: keep them simple, pay attention to the details, and use what works.

That's the approach behind Ultramarathon Running Store.

We keep things simple. I choose products because they solve real problems in ultra running and stand up over distance.

Individual product pages also include customer reviews from runners who have used the equipment, sharing real-world experience of fit, comfort, durability and performance in use.

UMRS is still a small, independent, online-only business. I pack orders and deal with returns myself. If you need help choosing equipment for a race, working through its mandatory kit list or putting together your race-day setup, just get in touch. I respond personally and promptly, with straightforward, practical advice.

Everything shown on the website is held in stock in the UK. Orders placed by 2pm Monday to Friday are dispatched the same day. We don’t drop ship or use marketplace fulfilment. If it’s listed as in stock, it’s here and ready to dispatch.

It's a store for ultra runners and people getting into ultra running.
