This is my first pair of Hoka's and from the outset I was impressed. On advice from anyone who had ever owned a pair, I bought half a UK size too big and the fit was perfect. They certainly reduce muscle damage in longer runs (I only use them on longer runs), they don't compromise a 'barefoot' running style if that's what you use, and have far more grip than I'm used to with my trusty Asics trail shoes. They are perfectly stable on technical ground at night and have excelled on all terrains so far.
The uppers have a simple but effective lacing system, although the longevity will need to be tested. They are very light but I wonder if this will be at the expense of durability.
Overall, an expensive outlay, but for me at least it has been very good value.
